24-25 April, Live Historical Roleplay, Archeon. Well again we discovered that trying to portray a medieval person by first-person interaction (Historical Live Roleplay) to be fairly difficult. However the event was a lot of fun and everyone was getting the hang of the idea. A lot of enthusiasm to do another event again soon. A highlight of this event was marching into the village accompanied by the ox cart baggage train.
13-14 March. Brederode this was an in kit event, the main activities were, 15th C cooking, etiquette, dancing, games, working on biographies, practice session and discussion for the next Historical Live Roleplay event, etc.
The event went well, we had 15 CdO members present, despite unfortunately a few members dropping out at the last minute. We started the Morning with a session on fire starting and demonstration by Sylvia on how to use flint steel and char cloth to make a flame. Johan also demonstrated how to make char cloth from linen sealed in a fire proof container in the fire. We then had a discussion on background concepts for the Biographies, in particular looking at the service culture, where everyone is in service to a higher authority, ultimately ending in the highest human authority, such as a king, being under gods authority. We then looked how this worked in the setting of a small Lords or wealthy Burgers household, as it related to the very important daily activity of cooking. Once the jobs were defined, with examples taken specifically from Le Menagier de Paris, and the Menu (Pork and Cheese Pie, Glazed Mushrooms, Fried spinach, Beef Stew, Tarley, Cabbage Chowder, Spit roasted Chicken) sorted we began cooking. It took a bit of getting used to the command structure but the tasks went much quicker with the head cook directing each person responsible for certain tasks who in turn controlled their workers, and people with no current work to do being directed to help out others as required. As the food was cooking we had a session on Etiquette and looked at how to serve the high table, whether it be for a wealthy Burger or Important Lord. Once the food was ready we ate lunch, fairly informally. It was then time to wash up, then on to the next discussion over Biographies. Jocelyne our dance mistress, took us for a session on Burgundian dancing, we looked at the types of dance steps that were used and how they were arranged to form dances. The final main activity for the day was a discussion over the upcoming HLRP event at Archeon in April.
7 Febuary, Saturday . Workshop in my house in Archeon, starting from around 10:30: Painting company banner, working on clothes, etc. I will bring my patterns with me for those who want them.
24/25 January, LHO Winter Feast. 16 members were present, after a quick rehearsal we also did a dance demonstration of Petit Rein, which was a lot of fun. Sunday was the General meeting of the CdO, we now have 19 full members and 6 applicants. A list of members with photos, can be found by following the link on the Group Regulations page.
